Something we all know is that it takes a lot to run a business. Supplies, resources, capital is just the start. One thing a business definitely needs is people. A business will cease to exist without the people in the background making the process happen. In 2017, Respond1st was born and all areas of operations as well as administration was often taken care of by one person. As you can imagine, the day-to-day operations of a service business could quickly become overwhelming.
In 2020, at the height of the Coronavirus Pandemic, businesses across the country experienced hardships at unheard of proportions. Respond1st was no different and our operations was forced to shut down throughout most of the Pandemic. This time was used to strategize and plan a restructuring that was desperately needed to make this organization a success and continue its mission.

Coming off the heels of a global Pandemic was nothing short of a miraculous feat by all involved. As Respond1st began to get back into a somewhat normal mode of operating, numerous opportunities were presented. One of the more promising opportunities was a partnership to help further the mission and accelerate Respond1st forward. After months of conversations, meetings, brainstorming and research, we are overly thrilled to announce the newest business partners and operating team of Respond1st! On November 28, 2021, and in addition to Mr. Kenneth Evans, Respond1st officially gained the talents of Mr. Robert Sargent and Mrs. Kayleigh Campbell Mullenix.
Evans is the founder and visionary of Respond1st and serves as the Chief Executive Officer. As a Virginia certified Advanced Life Support provider, he has been working in the field of Emergency Medical Services for over 15 years and have held numerous positions in the areas of training and leadership with various agencies across the state. Evans is a graduate of Hopewell High School and John Tyler Community College. Throughout his career, Evans has received numerous accolades honoring his service to his community including being the two time recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the Hopewell-Prince George Chamber of Commerce.
Sargent is no stranger to Respond1st. Upon our inception, Sargent was one of our biggest supporters. Now, as a business partner, Sargent serves as the Chief Administrative Officer. Sargent is a graduate of Hopewell High School and is a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Virginia. He brings over 15 years of experience in Emergency Medical Services and has served his community in several roles to include being a former Chief of Hopewell EMS in Hopewell, VA. Sargent is the embodiment of strength and empowerment having overcome several obstacles in his life to achieve his goals and dreams.
Campbell Mullenix has a personality unlike any other and can only be summed up in one word, infectious! As our second newest business partner, we saw it only fair to have her serve as our Chief Operating Officer. Campbell Mullenix is a graduate of Prince George High School and continued her studies at Virginia Commonwealth University where she is currently pursuing her Advanced Life Support provider certification. As a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Virginia, Campbell Mullenix has leveraged her training and talents to bring health and safety programs to the communities she’s served. Most notably, Campbell Mullenix is the creator and brainchild of the ProjectSMART initiative that was started in Petersburg, VA.
When Evans was asked by a close friend how he felt about the new venture, he stated “I never thought in my wildest dreams that Respond1st would be undertaking such a promising venture”.
“I’m super excited to be working with some pretty great people and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us”!
